We want to create a fairer world of work in which these questions no longer exist.

Everyone sees the world differently. Culture, nationality, age or gender – many factors have an impact on how we perceive the world and what experiences we have. The more we share our different views with each other, the faster and better we learn from and with each other. A place where this is particularly important: our workplace.

Why is diversity so important in everyday work?

In today’s world, we’ve had numerous opportunities to observe the positive impact of a fairer and more diverse society. As a leading job site in Europe, we want to highlight the importance of these topics in the workplace.

Last year, StepStone released a study highlighting the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace. While 2 in 3 Belgians say their employer is doing well regarding diversity, 7 in 10 have already experienced discrimination at work. In collaboration with Transgender Infopunt, Genres Pluriels and other associations, as well as prof. dr. Joz Motmans (UGent), we also highlighted the career challenges of transgender employees in the workplace.

87% of Belgian employees think that diversity at work is an important topic and would find it positive to encourage it.

66% of surveyed employees rating their employer as doing (very) well regarding diversity and inclusion at work.

Worryingly, 31% of respondents said that diversity is not present in their current company.

Our colleagues from StepStone Germany have studied the impact of diversity at work and combined their findings in the StepStone Diversity Report. The report shows that we all benefit from more inclusion. And the more diverse the teams, the better the results.

It is also important to note that 92% of Belgian employees would find It motivational if their employer promoted equal career opportunities. 8 in 10 would also find it motivational, if their management committed to greater diversity in the company.
